Since 1927, Hoppecke has been producing energy storage systems in Brilon in Germany and between now and December all subsidiaries and their employees (as well as many members of the public) are taking part in the anniversary celebrations.

Hoppecke’s Managing Director Dr Marc Zoellner and his father Claus, who led the company for 37 years until 2003, watched the company’s specially made jubilee flags being raised in Brilon accompanied by 20 former employees who are all older than 90. The celebration – which included an alcohol-free toast – was also attended by the company’s most senior staff member, Rudolf Bunse, who has worked for Hoppecke for 62 years.

The official birthday celebrations will take place on 27 September, when every employee in every subsidiary will share a birthday cake. Also, all Hoppecke staff will receive special presents from the company, there will be a dedicated website showing the history of Hoppecke and a collection of stories has been produced featuring those who have worked for the battery specialist over the years.

Staff at Hoppecke’s UK headquarters are planning a range of events to celebrate the 90th anniversary and have already run the jubilee flag up the flagpole at the Newcastle-under-Lyme premises, where it will remain until the end of the year.

Jason Howlett, Hoppecke’s Regional Managing Director – Northern Europe, said: “This is a momentous occasion, the Hoppecke parent company being in business for 90 years. We are proud to be involved in these celebrations which underline the longevity of Hoppecke and the unrivalled level of experience and expertise that exists within the company.”

He added: “As we commemorate reaching this incredible milestone we would like to thank every single one of our customers – and all our staff – who have played their part in making us so successful over the years. We have had some especially good results in recent times and are looking forward to many more years of providing our customers with solutions to their particular energy storage and management requirements.”
